01/21/08 – Marilyn Segars Jamal, a veteran city educator, took the mic at the front of the Camden High auditorium and told one student to take off his hat, kicked out another student for talking and announced to the school that she was the new acting principal. "I promise you, you will achieve success," Jamal said, tearing up. "My tears aren't for fear, my tears are because I'm ready to rise. Are you?"
Fresh paint is now covering some of the graffiti and outside consultants (LTG) are running professional development sessions.

LTG partner Steve Burghardt interviwed on NY1 by political anchor Dominic Carter about Amy Watkins, a Hunter College student, in whose name a scholarship was set up for future leaders to continue the community organizing work she started 10 years ago. Watch the Interview on NY1

On 3/4/08, LTG partner Steve Burghardt participated in Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Press Conference on homelessness in New York City.
Dr. Burghardt led the city's annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE) on 1/28/08, a research project involving over 1700 volunteers. The results of this project will be used to design more effective outreach and intervention efforts for the homeless population.
